The Hartford Courant reported Friday Pennsylvania joined eight other states in calling on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to reduce emissions from coal-fired power plants in nine midwest and southern states.
The comments were made at an EPA hearing Thursday in Washington.
Pennsylvania joined Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont in asking for emission reductions for coal power plants in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
A similar request made last year to the Obama Administration was turned down.
Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy said a final rejection by EPA would be the last step before the Northeast states head to court.
